Bakerswell House is an exceptional architect designed holiday rental which has been completely transformed to provide flexible accommodation in the picturesque town of Anstruther, close to the Cellardyke Harbour and only a few steps from the south facing seashore. The property is ideal for family holidays or golfing breaks with generous space for up to 10 guests in 5 double/twin bedrooms with two large living areas opening out to a sheltered multi-level garden with enclosed courtyard, deck areas and lawn.


Bakerswell House is ideally located midway between the picturesque harbours of Anstruther and Cellardyke. Both of these former fishing villages have joined together through development over the past two hundred years and the house enjoys a relatively quiet location away from the hustle and bustle and associated amenities of Anstruther harbour but yet only a very short walk away.

The town of Anstruther (which includes Cellardyke) has a wide range of shops, pubs and restaurants. The area is well served with excellent eating places to suit every budget and taste.

Anstruther is home to the Scottish Fisheries Museum and, from the harbour, boat trips can be taken for sea angling or sightseeing to various areas of interest such as the Isle of May, a famous nature reserve where you can see puffins!

The area is renowned for attracting artists and musicians with open studio and musical events happening throughout the year.

For the more active there are the Tennis Courts, Elie Watersports Centre (sailing and generally messing about on the water) and the East Neuk Outdoors Centre (canoeing, abseiling etc) and there are also links directly into the Fife Coastal path offering walking opportunities across a wider area.

For the keen golfer, Fife is the home of golf and the Anstruther golf course voted toughest par 3 in the UK by Todays Golfer in September 2007. If that's not enough there are another 45 courses to choose from including the infamous “Old Course” at St Andrews is only a short drive away. Whilst it may be difficult to book a tee time on the “Old Course”, there is a selection of other courses in St Andrews itself with several other highly challenging options on the outskirts of the town and the surrounding villages.

Bakerswell House is ideally located centrally just a short walk from both the picturesque  harbours of Anstruther and Cellardyke. The House has an interesting history and has recently been totally transformed to provide stunning, spacious accommodation including:

Living room with the ‘Bakers Oven’ and ‘The Well’. The living room provides a comfortable cosy space to chill out, watch tv or just relax with under floor heating warming toes. French doors open out to a courtyard linked to the upper deck and garden by an external staircase.

This living room is also linked directly to the 33ft (10m) long, stunning, sun drenched kitchen/dining room via an internal spiral stair.

The kitchen is well equipped with an American style fridge freezer, range cooker, microwave and dishwasher with large expanses of worksurfaces and breakfast bar encouraging socialising during meal preparation time.

The dining area provides space for up to 10 people around an oak table; in addition there is a separate informal seating area for pre-dinner drinks. 

From the dining area french doors open out to a sheltered fully enclosed, sunny deck and raised garden allowing for alfresco dining.

Sleeping, sanitary and utility accommodation:
The front part of the house accommodates:  5 bedrooms (3 doubles and 2 twin) over three levels with a bathroom with spa bath, 1 ensuite shower room, 1 shower room together with a separate WC at ground floor level.  All beds have crisp cotton sheets and cosy duvets.

In addition a spacious cloak room has been provided at ground floor level with adjacent utility room providing a storage area for golf clubs, beach toys, coats and boots.

The name of the house is derived from the two main features of the lounge area – the 3m deep baker’s oven and the well. The features have been retained as a link to the past and give obvious clues to what the building was used for in addition to its roots as a fisherman’s cottage.

Interestingly part of the ground floor was also formerly the local Post Office and the previous owner was the post mistress here until relatively recently.

Sleeps 10 guests (plus 2 children in cots or fold up beds - at an additional cost and by request only). Stair gates available.

Weekly rates from £610 - £1750 per week depending on season

Rates include towels, linen, electricity and exit clean (additional cleaning during your stay can be arranged at an additional cost)

Supplement for additional guests: the property can be booked online for up to 10 guests, but if requested, an additional 2 children may be added to any booking at a charge of £10 each to cover extra bedding, etc.

Shorter breaks available - minimum 3 nights stay (depending on time of year) / 7 nights during Christmas and New Year

Refundable security/good housekeeping deposit of £100 held in case of breakages / damage caused during the stay or excessive cleaning required following. The property is checked following each let.
