Ormidale House is a luxurious 13-bedroom historic 'Lairds House' set in 23 acres of grounds, enjoying complete privacy and views down the glen to Loch Riddon in Argyll. The surrounding scenery, an hour and a half from Glasgow, is stunning. With separate playrooms for adults and children, a TV room and a formal drawing room with open fire, Ormidale House works really well for any large party of a dozen or more people who want a luxurious break without the formal atmosphere of a hotel. Available to let by the week or for short breaks, catered or self-catering.


Ormidale was built in the 17th Century, then extended in 1900 into a lovely, light, airy house with great entertaining spaces. It has bags of atmosphere and history, but none of the formality you get in a hotel or a grand country house proper. Visitors have described Ormidale as the best party house in Scotland - perfect for special celebrations, corporate breaks, or as a fabulous base for multi-family and multi-age holidays. It’s a fabulous location for kids. Dogs are welcome. 4-star Scottish Tourist Board approved.

It sleeps up to 30 in 13 bedrooms, with maximum adult occupancy of 24. There are eight bathrooms, ten toilets. The cottage next door is available to groups taking the main house and provides further accommodation for six people.

Catering options are totally flexible, from self-catered, to fully catered, and anything in-between to suit the size of your party and your budget. For special celebration meals we’ll introduce you to Alison Sykora of the Real Food Consultancy – an award-winning cook, a good friend of ours, and a regular caterer at Mount Stuart, home to the Marquess of Bute.

Inside, you might enjoy a banquet in the dining hall, challenge a friend in the billiards or games rooms, unwind in the sauna, relax in front of a log fire, or chat around the Aga oven in the large kitchen. It’s been luxuriously equipped and furnished with antiques, quality beds and linen, with crystal for the table and Scottish art on the walls, to ensure that it’s as comfortable and well-equipped a place to stay as you’ll find in Scotland. The house has a lovely, relaxing feel.

Outside, the landscaped gardens include extensive lawns, shrubbed terraces, and a south-facing sun terrace. The garden is set amidst 20 acres of woodland, enjoying complete privacy and lovely views down the glen. There is a lovely waterfall walk within the garden, and a rope-assisted climb down to a pool for outdoor bathing. Access to the estate's indoor swimming pool is also available. The house is equipped with a dozen mountain bikes, four sets of golf clubs, fishing rods, etc. The garden features
an outdoor children's play area, large trampoline, croquet lawn, separate football pitch, barbecue and midge machine! Dogs are always welcome.

Ground Floor: Entrance hall, sitting room with log burning stove, drawing room with open fire, kids playroom / TV room, billiard room, 2 wcs & whb, dining room seats 22 (or 24?), breakfast room, kitchen, freezer room, utility room, boot room, drying room.

First Floor Seven twin / double rooms, three with en-suite shower rooms, two with en-suite bathrooms with showers over the bath, one twin room, one double room, one quadruple bunk room, two bathrooms, and a sauna.

Second Floor Two twin / triple rooms, a double room, and a bathroom with shower over the bath.

You can walk for an hour within the house's own gardens, and immediate access into the forests and onto the mountains mean this is a fabulous base for walkers and cyclists. Sailing, fishing, shooting, and stalking of the highest quality are all available locally. There’s a 9 hole pay and play golf course ten minutes away above Tighnabruaich. Cowal Golf Club at Dunoon and Inellan are the 18 hole courses in the area that welcome visitors. The owners are also happy to arrange other activities such as clay-pigeon shooting, archery, paint-balling or off road driving - just let them know what you would like to do and they will try to organise it for your group.

Shortbreaks are two or three nights including a weekend, or three or four nights midweek.
All school holiday weeks are treated as high season.

Shortbreak prices for 2 or 3 nights are approximately 75% of full week prices.

Booking terms:

A booking is confirmed on receipt of 25% deposit of the cost of the holiday. Remainder due 2 calendar months before the holiday commences. £500 good house-keeping / damage deposit is required in cleared funds a week before occupancy (fully refundable as long as the house is left in good order).

Price includes all heating, electricity, towels, bed linen and an initial supply of logs.

No smoking, no stag parties.

Cancellation Policy:

If the Hirer cancels a confirmed booking he/she remains liable for payment of the full cost of the holiday. Upon receipt of written confirmation of the cancellation from the Hirer, the Owner will endeavour to re-let the property and if successful will make a full refund to the Hirer less an administration fee of £55 (inclusive of VAT) and any other expenses incurred in re-letting.

Upon receipt of deposit payment, the Owner will take out a cancellation insurance (at a cost, borne by the Owner of 2.99% of the booking) protecting the hirer against the need to cancel in certain circumstances. The claim, in the event of a claim, is to be pursued with the insurance company by the hirer; failure of the insurance company to pay does not mitigate the hirer’s responsibility to pay.
